District 9 hoop brackets releasedThe District 9 boys and girls basketball playoff brackets were released Friday afternoon.Karns City, the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference girls champion, received a bye in the Class AA tournament and will play the winner of Kane vs. Brookville on a day and time and at a site to be determined.The Moniteau girls will take on Redbank Valley in a Class AA game on a day and time and at a site to be determined.The Karns City boys will take on Brockway at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Clarion High School.The Union boys, coming off a loss in the KSAC championship game to Clarion-Limestone, won’t have long to wait for a rematch. The two teams are set to clash in the Class A playoffs on day and time and at a site to be determined.The Union girls will travel to Smethport for a first-round Class A game Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Pioneers get men’s playoff hoop victoryKnoch graduate Austin Miller scored 35 points and helped the Butler County Community College men’s basketball team to a 102-72 win over Penn Highlands in the first round of the WPCC Tournament Friday night.Miller also had 12 assists for the Pioneers, who were scheduled to play at CCAC North at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second round.Ken Snead added 34 points and Jake Anderson pitched in 14 points and 12 rebounds for Butler.
