Charles E. Duffy

Charles E. Duffy, 93, of Sarver passed away peacefully Thursday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 8, 1922, in Saxonburg on the Duffy homestead, which would later be known as Saxony Farms.

He was the son of the late John R. Duffy, Sr. and Seldena (Jean) Langham.

Before he enlisted in the Navy in 1943, he was a welder for J&L Steel. Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific during World War II.

When the family homestead was sold to Dr. Heilman, he continued to farm and later managed the same property for Saxony Farms for many years.

He was a welder for Zedmark Incorp. Charlie also was a steel fabricator and owner and operator of the Duffy Construction Co.

He was a charter member of the Saxonburg VFW 7376 and professor emeritus of the Kelley's Restaurant Coffee Club.

While on vacation in New Jersey, he often gave fishing lessons to those with special needs. Charlie loved to travel, and he traveled to all 50 states and internationally.

He had an insatiable curiosity for God's creations. He was known for his engineering and problem solving. Charlie was known in the community as one who was always willing to help a friend. He was defined by all who knew him by his love and devotion to his family and friends.

Surviving are his loving children, Charles (Gary) Duffy of Pray, Mont., Michael J. Duffy of Hillsdale, N.Y., Linda E. Rukavina of Tarentum, Cathy E. Haller of Zephryhills, Fla., Connie J. Neubert of Sarver, and Patricia A. Steigerwald of Wilmington, N.C.; 24 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Laura E. Duffy, who passed away April 1, 2014; son, James R. Duffy; grandson, Bradley S. Duffy; granddaughter, Lisa Arnold; and brother, John R. Duffy, Jr.

DUFFY — Friends of Charles E. Duffy, who died Thursday, April 23, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Additional visitation will be from 10 until the time of the services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Jeffrey Neubert officiating.
