Mary Stowe Riddle

Mary Stowe Riddle, 93, of Emlenton passed away Thursday at home.

Mary was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Allegheny Township, Butler County, the daughter of Orie H. Stowe and Isabell Blair Stowe.

Mary was a 1939 graduate of Eau Claire High School. She was married to Vivian Riddle for 33 years before his passing on Dec. 10, 1975.

Mary and her husband owned and operated Evergreen Farm, having a herd of registered Jersey cattle. She was employed at Mellon Bank, Emlenton Branch, at the time of her retirement. Mary was an active member of the Scrubgrass Stone Church.

She was also an active member of the Scrubgrass Grange and the Scrubgrass Senior Center until her heath no longer permitted it. She was a 4-H Leader for 21 years and was a past member of the Venango County Agriculture Extension Advisory Committee. She was a strong supporter of the Venango County Fair and was known for her angel food cake and floral entries. Mary loved to quilt and made many beautiful quilts for family and until recently quilted weekly with the Stone Church Quilters. She was also a past member of the Emlenton Eastern Star.

Surviving are her children, Beverly Gruber of New Tripoli, Barbara Gross and her husband, Glenn, of Emlenton and Harold Riddle and his fiance, Mary Mitchell, of Emlenton; her grandchildren, Clay Snyder and his wife, Linda, of Georgia, Brett Snyder and his wife, Jessica, of Maryland, Gretchen Kralj and her husband, Rick, of Emlenton and Gary Gross and his wife, Christina, of Wattsburg; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy Buchanan of Pittsburgh; sister-in-law, Georgia Riddle of Nevada; and sister-in-law, Nancy Stowe of Eau Claire.

She was proceeded by her parents; husband; one son-in-law, Henry Gruber; two brothers, Edward and James Stowe; and one sister, Gladys Groom.

RIDDLE — The family of Mary Stowe Riddle, who died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, will receive friends at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Sunday with the Rev. Denny Barger officiating.Interment will take place at the Scrubgrass Stone Church Cemetery.The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Scrubgrass Stone Church in care of the church's treasury, Marlene McNany, 106 Quick Lane, Emlenton PA 16373, or to the Venango County Fair, 867 Old Mercer Road, Franklin PA 16323.Interment will take place at the Scrubgrass Cemetery.Friends can e-mail condolences by visiting www.mckinleyfuneralhome.net.
