Susan Shedio

Susan Jean Shedio, 91, of Butler went home to be with her Lord on Saturday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Butler.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1923, to the late Mike and Mary Shedio of the Lyndora area.

Susan graduated from Butler High School on June 5, 1941, and completed course work at local colleges in the Butler and Pittsburgh area.

She began her work career for the G.C. Murphy Co. in 1941 in downtown Butler. In 1946, she joined Eisler Nurseries and was the office manager for 43 years. Later, she worked for various businesses in the Butler and Pittsburgh area.

Susan was a very active member of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was the first woman to serve as a deaconess of this congregation and served on many committees throughout her lifetime.

Susan was very active in her community. She was the first woman to serve as president of the local chapter of the National Association of Accountants and served as past national director and treasurer. In 1992, she was named Clubwoman of the Year for the Soroptomist. She was the first woman to be appointed orchestra manager for the Butler County Symphony. She also served as chairman of fundraising, the review board for the Symphony Ball and the Christmas Concert.

In 1986, she was selected Woman of the Year for the Butler Business and Professional Woman's Association and belonged to the National Foundation. She also served on the district and state levels as assistant editor of BPW's monthly publication of “The Key.”

She also served as a board member of Slippery Rock University. Susan was appointed to serve on U.S. Rep. Gary Myers' committee to select students for military academy admission. As a member of the United Way of Butler County, she served as treasurer, finance and special projects chairman and was a member of the Budget Committee.

Susan was also a member of the Butler Public Library, the Easter Seal Association, the International Platform Association, the Western PA Conservancy, the Butler Mental Health Association, the PA Association of Retarded Children and the YWCA.

In her spare time, Susan loved to cook, entertain and travel.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Janet Shedio; her nephew, John P. Shedio Jr. and his wife, Susan; her nieces, Patricia Edwards and Jacque Chambers, both of Florida; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and her good friends, Sue and Russ Morrow and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Shedio; her sister-in-law, Elvera Shedio; and her brother, Milan (Mike) Shedio.

Shedio — The friends of Susan Jean Shedio, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, will be received from 10:30 a.m. to services at noon Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Alden W. Towberman of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made in Susan's honor to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W.
