The Butler Eagle's Amish man photograph on the front page of the Sept. 26 edition disrespects the long-held belief and tradition of the Amish community.

The Amish believe that photographs in which they can be recognized violate the Biblical commandment “Thou shalt not make unto thyself a graven image.” They want to be remembered by the lives they lived and the examples they left, not by physical appearance.

The Eagle also disrespected the Amish belief when it showed the Amish man's photograph with a trivial weather reference.
