Sports facility planned in Buffalo Township

BUFFALO TWP — A 200,000-square-foot sports facility will be built on the former Risch property at the intersection of Routes 356 and 228.

Michael DeRiso, an attorney with the firm of DeRiso & DeRiso, and with the DeRiso Group, both of Pittsburgh, said the group is building the complex on the 71-acre Risch estate.

It will be a 4-acre-under-roof, two-story, steel-frame building.

On the ground floor will be:

• Two regulation soccer/lacrosse fields

• Two regulation basketball courts that will double as Dek hockey/in-line skating rinks

• A baseball/softball field with a 200-foot outfield

• Batting cages and grandstands.

The second floor will have a concession stand with seating with a view of the fields below so visitors can watch games and practices.

Outside, there will be four baseball/softball fields, two soccer/lacrosse fields, concessions and rest rooms.

The completion goal is late 2013 for the entire complex.

DeRiso said the group is working to attract tournaments, including those on the national level; to start some of its own leagues; and to work with the Freeport School District for practice and playing time at the complex.
