Raiders working toward 10th straight playoff berth

Talk about consistency.

Dave Sylvester, who is entering his 10th season as coach of the Seneca Valley girls soccer team, led the Raiders into the WPIAL playoffs in each of his previous nine seasons.

The squad isn't planning to break that streak in 2010.

SV went 22-1-1 last season and won the WPIAL Class AAA title for the second time in three years. The team's lone loss came against Norwin in the state quarterfinals.

"We did lose our top two scorers from last year in Kate Kelly (11 goals) and Mandy Cerminara (17)," said Sylvester. "But we return others who scored a good bit last season.

"And we've got (senior Keara (Lydon) back in goal."

The Raiders compete in Section 3, which lost Mars and Knoch to Class AA.

SV's section foes now include Pine-Richland, Butler, Hampton, North Hills, North Allegheny and Shaler.
