Zelie teen earns Eagle

Coyne

Patrick Coyne, of Zelienople Boy Scout Troop 457, was presented the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 15 at the English Lutheran Church in Zelienople.

He is the son of Robert Coyne and Margaret Coyne of Beaver Falls and Dana Coyne and John Kuhn of Portersville.

Patrick has been involved in scouting since fourth grade as a Webelos Cub Scout. He earned his Arrow of Light; and along his trail to Eagle, he earned 31 merit badges and became a member of the Order of the Arrow. In 2006 and 2008, he hiked the trails of Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with his troop. In 2007, he traveled to England for the World Scout Jamboree and the 100th anniversary of scouting.

For his Eagle project, he planned, organized and helped execute a project to design and build shelters on the Eden Christian Academy soccer field.

The 2010 graduate of Eden Christian Academy will attend Washington University in St. Louis to study premedicine. He is a National Merit finalist and a second degree black belt in tae kwon do. While at Eden Christian Academy, he played soccer and was selected for the SWCAC All-Star soccer team.

He played basketball and participated in the school musicals and robotics club and was on the Hometown High Q KDKA game show. Other achievements include second place in software development and research in the first Lego Robotics Competition in Pennsylvania and participation in the SSP Program at Harvard. He was also a People to People student ambassador to France, Italy and Greece.

Patrick is a member of New Community Church in Wexford, where he served in the Sunday school for four years.
