Grove City High wrestler Wes Phipps has advanced to the PIAA Class AA Championship Tournament after placing second at the Northwest Regionals on Saturday.

Phipps decisioned Clarion's Danny Walters, 9-3, in the 160-pound semifinal.

He then lost the regional title match to Coudersport's Dirk Cowburn, 4-3.

Two other Grove City wrestlers competed at the event, but missed out on a chance to make the state championships.

At 119 pounds, Ian Abplanalp lost a close 3-2 decision to Jesse Wolfe of Curwensville in the consolation semifinals.

Kirby Buchanan also lost in the consolation semis, getting pinned by Saegertown's Tim Clark at 135 pounds.

Only the top three in each weight class move on to PIAAs.

SwimmingSlippery Rock High's Caleb Sykora-Bodie placed second in the boys 50-yard freestyle (22.08 seconds) at the District 10 Class AA Championships, held at Penn State Behrend.The effort is good enough to send the senior to the PIAA Championships, which begin next week.Also making the state meet were Grove City's Chris Gregg (second in 100 breaststroke at 1:00.7) and Patrick Shaw (second in 100 butterfly at 56.88).Also earning a medal with a top-three performance for Slippery Rock's boys was freshman Brandon Bridges, who was third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:17.85.Grove City's medals also included a pair of third-place boys finishes — the Eagles' 200 medley relay team at 1:42.86 and Ben Yute in the 200 individual medley (2:07.31).On the girls side, Slippery Rock sophomore Kelsey Reott placed third in the 500 freestyle (5:31.62).Other performances from Slippery Rock included:
