Woman on bicycle steals phone
Butler police are seeking a two-wheel, drive-by cell phone snatcher.
The suspect, 20-year-old Selena Y. Klapheke, who has no known address, was riding a bicycle last week when she allegedly committed her mobile phone theft.
Police said the victim, Charles Bucci, flagged down officers about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday to report that a bicyclist had just ridden by him as he was leaving his home on South Bluff Street and that rider took the $100 phone right out of his hand.
He ran after the woman, who he knew by the name “Selena,” according to court documents. He chased after the suspect but lost sight of her in the area of Birch on Chestnut streets.
Police recognized Klapheke as the alleged crook from the description that Bucci gave officers. They also knew that she had been riding a bike in town the past week, documents said.
The victim identified Klapheke from a photograph that police showed her.
District Judge William Fullerton issued an arrest warrant for Klapheke on charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property.
Butler County Court records showed Klapheke last year pleaded guilty to six separate drug cases, including one felony. She is still on probation in connection with two of those cases.
