Student wins poster contest
Caitlin Hilliard, fourth grade student at Emily Brittain Elementary School, won a poster contest that was to promote the prevention of waterway pollution.
Gateway Engineers sponsored the contest for all fourth, fifth and sixth grade students in the Butler School District.
Caitlin's poster tells residents not to dump oil down storm drains.
She wins $50 and will be honored at the March 23 city council meeting by Mayor Maggie Stock.
Chad Michelini, engineer-in-training with Gateway, said the goal of the contest was to teach youth the importance of healthy waterways.
The firm sent packets to all district teachers explaining the contest in January.
He said the goal was to get students talking about the topic with their parents so they would learn about the topic as well.
This is the second year of the contest and Michelini said he would like to see the contest expand, perhaps to all county schools.
