SRU women get 1st win

Anyah Curd sank three of her four free throw attempts in the waning seconds as the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team edged Elizabeth City State, 76-75, Saturday in North Carolina.

Daeja Quick led SRU (1-1) with 19 points and five assists. Brooke Hinderliter added 16 points and six rebounds, Madison Johnson 14 points and seven boards.

Curd had 11 points and nine rebounds.

SRU travels to Bowie State for a 5:30 p.m. game Friday.

Fairmont State 85, SRU 78 (men) — The teams traded the lead 19 times in the first half before The Rock (1-1) took the loss. Will Robinson Jr. scored 38 points and Jared Armstrong added 25 in a losing cause.Robinson added 12 rebounds. His 38 points marked only the third time since 2004 that a Rock player scored that many in a game.SRU begins its home season at 7:30 p.m.Tuesday, hosting Penn State Shenango at Morrow Field House.
