BRADY TWP — A 67-year-old man is accused of growing marijuana at his home last year.

But that’s not the only felony charge facing Larry G. Morrison.

State police said they found three guns at his home on West Liberty Road. Because of a prior felony conviction, he is prohibited from possessing any firearms.

District Judge William O’Donnell arraigned Morrison on Tuesday in connection with the criminal case filed by the police vice unit. He is charged with manufacturing a controlled substance and illegal possession of a firearm, both felonies.

Additionally, he is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

He remains free on his own recognizance while awaiting his preliminary hearing March 29 at O’Donnell’s office in Slippery Rock.

Vice officers on Oct. 15 went to Morrison’s home to investigate a report that the attic of his garage was being used as the drying station of a marijuana growing operation, according to court documents.

He waived his Miranda warnings, police said, and acknowledged he had the illegal crop in the garage.

He allowed troopers to search his property. The search turned up two marijuana plants and processed marijuana as well as growing and packaging materials.

Police also seized a 12-gauge shotgun in the garage and two other guns — a .22-caliber rifle under a couch and a .22-caliber pistol under a bed — in the house.

Police noted that Morrison’s criminal record includes a 1989 conviction for burglary. That prior felony bars him from legally having guns.
