Vehicle hits pedestrian in Butler Twp.

A pedestrian was struck and injured by a vehicle Monday evening in Butler Township.

BUTLER TWP — A pedestrian was struck and injured by a vehicle Monday evening in Butler Township.

The pedestrian, a male in his mid-30s, was walking along the southbound lane of North Main Street Extension when he was struck by a sport-utility vehicle traveling in the right southbound lane just after 7 p.m., said Sgt. Jim Sasse of the township police department.

The pedestrian, who was conscious and alert following the accident, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, but would probably be taken to another hospital for further treatment, Sasse said. He said the pedestrian might have suffered internal injuries.

The male driver of the SUV was alone in the vehicle and was not injured, Sasse said.

The vehicle had minor damage.

The accident occurred at 1124 N. Main St. Ext. near the Advanced Auto store.

All traffic was diverted to the northbound lanes while police investigated.

The Mercer Road Volunteer Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the accident.
