The Zelienople Area Public Library is offering two gently used book sales outdoors this fall.

The sales will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 and Oct. 10 at the library, 227 S. High Street. All items will have been quarantined prior to the sale.

Prices range from 50 cents to $1, with a table of out-of-print books appropriately priced. The sales will be rescheduled in case of inclement weather.

On Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m., the library will have an online financial literacy workshop. “Understanding Credit Scores” will be presented by representatives of Northwest Bank. Email zaplib@bcfls.org for a meeting link.

This event is presented as part of the library's participation in the PA Forward Initiative of Pennsylvania Library Association, a movement to use libraries to better the lives of Pennsylvanians through core literacy areas.

Mars Area High School will hold its 2020 homecoming celebration Monday through Sept. 25.In order to adhere to current gathering limitations and social distancing guidelines, homecoming activities will be adjusted. There will be no Powder Puff football games, homecoming pep rally, homecoming parade or homecoming dance.Spirit Week will include the following themed days:Sept. 21 — “Comfy Cozy” DaySept. 22 — “Team Spirit” DaySept. 23 — Wacky WednesdaySept. 24 — “Red, White & Blue” DaySept. 25 — “School Spirit” (Blue & Gold) DayThe celebration will conclude with the Fightin' Planets homecoming football game against the Plum Mustangs at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Mars Athletic Complex. The annual Zelienople Library Presents speaker series will be providing three live stream events this fall. The speaker series is a fundraiser for the Zelienople Area Public Library.First on the schedule at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 is the non-profit organization City of Asylum.Marlena Abraham, an advanced game designer with Schell Games in Pittsburgh, will be a guest at 7 p.m. Nov. 5.Elliott Cramer, of Elliott Cramer Photo & Video, will speak at 7 p.m. Dec. 10.Tickets are $8 for adults and $3 for children, age 14 and younger. They can be purchased on Eventbrite.com or by calling the library. There are five free tickets available to Seneca Valley School District students.A Zoom link will be sent to registrants the day of the event. Those who need assistance with installing Zoom should call the library at 724-452-9330.

Parents and the public are invited to a virtual town hall meeting on underage drinking at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.Presented by Butler First Step, the event's speakers will be Chief Deputy Mark Peffer of the Butler County Sheriff's Office, Jeff Hogan of the Penn State EPIS Center and Lisa Gill, a prevention specialist with the county Drug and Alcohol Program.The town hall will be moderated by county Commissioner Kevin Boozel.The speakers will give presentations on underage drinking laws, the consequences of underage drinking, ways to discuss resisting alcohol with youths ages 8 through 20 and how to protect young people from underage alcohol use.The Zoom meeting will include a question-and-answer period at the end.A link to join the free virtual town hall meeting can be found by searching “Butler First Step” on Facebook and scrolling to the town hall post.
