Man injured in ATV accident

FRANKLIN TWP — A township man was seriously injured Thursday night when he crashed his all-terrain vehicle in woods off North Road, authorities said.

A medical helicopter flew the man, believed to be in his mid-50s, to a Pittsburgh hospital following a call for the wreck about 10:20 p.m. His condition was not known Friday.

State police are investigating but they did not release his name and an accident report was not immediately available.

Authorities said the man had been riding the ATV earlier in the evening on trails in a wooded area near his home on the 100 block of North Road.

It was not known when the accident happened. A neighbor eventually found him about 200 yards in the woods in back of a house.

The man apparently flipped the ATV on a grass trail. He was laying on his back about five feet from the vehicle, which was overturned, said Nate Blackwood, assistant chief for the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department.

Rescuers said he was “a little disoriented” and had numbness in both legs and both arms. He had no visible injuries.
