Pgh. woman faces charges for 2 DUIs

A woman faces arraignment later this month on charges stemming from two drugged driving arrests less than four weeks apart.

The same Butler police officer came upon Cindy Jo McFadden, 40, of Pittsburgh both times — July 9 and Aug. 1.

In the most recent case, police said, Lt. David Villotti was on patrol around 9:35 p.m. when a car heading north on North Main Street nearly collided with his cruiser traveling in the opposite direction as it turned left onto West North Street.

The driver did not signal, according to police, and one of the car's headlights was not working.

Villotti recognized McFadden following the traffic stop. He suspected she was impaired, and she was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology results, court documents said, indicated she had marijuana and the narcotic buprenorphine in her system.

A search of the defendant's car, police said, turned up a marijuana grinder and a straw with powder residue.

Police charged her Sept. 2 with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two traffic violations.

In the previous incident a month earlier, police said, Villotti found the defendant unconscious in the driver's seat of a car on South Main Street around 4:40 p.m. Both passenger side tires were over the curb and on the sidewalk.

A 4-year-old girl was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle, and she was crying. Police said they were able to awaken McFadden, who appeared impaired.

Her boyfriend, documents said, showed up and told police that she had driven he and his two children, including the one in the car seat, to the store.

The boyfriend was in the store with the other child when police arrived.

McFadden eventually tested positive for marijuana and buprenorphine, documents said, following a blood test at the Butler hospital.

Police said when they searched her purse, they found a plastic baggie with suspected marijuana and other contraband.

On Sept. 2, police charged her with two counts of child endangerment, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a small amount of marijuana drug paraphernalia.

Preliminary arraignment for McFadden is scheduled Sept. 22. Online court records did not list an attorney for her.
