Butler grad lands gig at theme park
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A 2003 Butler High School graduate will play alto saxophone in the Busch Gardens Starlight Orchestra this summer.
The band performs swing and big band music for guests at the park. It includes dancing and dinner entertainment.
Brandon Musko of Butler, who is a 2007 Slippery Rock University graduate, auditioned for the position in December in Pittsburgh.
Musko is one of only two college students out of 200 individuals who were accepted this spring,
In addition to being a featured saxophone player, he will double on flute and clarinet.
"Brandon credits his love for music and inspiration to teachers from Slippery Rock, Terry Steele and Dr. Stephen Hawk and all his previous music educators," said Musko's mother, Linda Musko.
Musko's interest in music was sparked in third grade when he began taking instrumental music classes.
"He has taken private lessons all his life and has always practiced music everyday," she said.
His passion for music continued through his time at Butler High, and ultimately led to a bachelor's degree in music performance from SRU.
"In the future," Linda Musko said, "he hopes to be on a major cruise ship performing and furthering his education."
