Farmer dies in tree accident

A Cranberry Township man died Saturday after an accident that happened while he was cutting down a tree.

Calvin Croft, 73, was cutting down a tree in his yard when a limb bounced back and struck him in the head, according to chief deputy corner John Hanovick.

Croft died on impact of blunt force trauma. He was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m.

Croft, and his brother, Glenn Croft, ran a dairy farm at 7365 Franklin Road. Croft was a lifelong resident of Cranberry Township.

Their neighbor, Jim Lehman, spoke favorably of the Crofts. He said that Calvin could often be seen working on the farm early in the morning and on his tractor in the field late at night.

“They just worked day and night and in between,” he said. “They’ve been amazing.

“They’ve been great neighbors and it’s very sad to see that (Calvin passed).”
