GC takes 3rd at challenge
BUTLER TWP Grove City High School finished third at the Armstrong Academic Challenge competition April 4.
Grove City's team consisted of John Miklos, Nicholas Bachman, Drew Kaltenbaugh, Justin Vath, Blaise Bucha and Matthew O'Polka, and was coached by Vincent Anastasi. Grove City earned a $300 school scholarship. Individual team members received a $75 savings bond.
Sitting behind champion North Allegheny High School and Commodore Perry, Grove City tied for its spot with Saegertown High School at the event at Butler County Community College. Grove City knocked off Mercer and Lincoln before losing to North Allegheny.
Eighteen schools competed, including Butler, Knoch, Moniteau, and Slippery Rock. Butler beat Pine-Richland and Knoch before losing to Commodore Perry. Knoch, Moniteau and Slippery Rock all lost in the first round.
The Pennsylvania Cable Network will present the semifinals and championship match to a statewide audience later.
