Conservancy program for students wins award
PENN TWP - The Succop Conservancy Field Trip Program recently was honored with the Earth Friend Award, which honors people, schools, and organizations that improve and conserve the environment through earth-friendly or green practices.
The field trip program for kindergartners through eighth graders studies ponds and wetlands, tree identification and appreciation, state geography and geology, cultural exploration and primitive skills, and environmental stewardship.
The award specifically mentions resident blacksmith Ryan Stauffer who manages environmental programs and coordinates study topics ranging from medieval times to American colonialism.
Located on Airport Road, the conservancy offers an outdoor campus with two ponds, walking trails and 50 acres for students to explore. It is owned and operated by the Butler County Community College Education Foundation.
The award was presented by Sony, WTAE and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.
