Rev. Brandon Johns, of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Evans City, received a little help carrying the cross with his daughters, Lily, 8, Anna, 6, Kate, 3, and his wife, Christine, Friday afternoon, April 2, 2021. Parishioners from Crestview United Presbyterian Church, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, St. John's United Church of Christ and Westminster Presbyterian Church gathered in Callery at noon to carry the cross. They stopped at four intersections, praying for first responders, essential workers, pastors, political leaders and members of the armed forces during the walk.

Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company captain Greg Vickinovac, 41, battled COVID-19, spending 13 days on a ventilator at UPMC Passavant in McCandless. The longtime firefighter had no comorbidities that could have made him more vulnerable to the virus. Doctors said for some people, the severe reaction to the virus seems almost to come down to bad luck.
