BUFFALO TWP — More than 600 stamp bags of heroin were seized during a routine weekend traffic stop that turned into anything but, state police said.

The driver, Quaylynn Lee Latimer, 26, of Pittsburgh, was later jailed on a state parole violation. Felony drugs charges are pending.

Trooper David Endlich was on patrol duty shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he noticed a Nissan Altima with heavy window tinting on the window and taillights while traveling on Route 28 north, about one mile north of exit 17 in Buffalo Township.

Endlich pulled over Latimer's car.

“He was extremely nervous,” the trooper said Tuesday, “and he had no license.” He also would learn Latimer was wanted on the state parole warrant

But Endlich smelled something funny, too. “The smell of unburned marijuana,” he said.

Latimer was arrested for the warrant and the trooper searched his car.

In a book bag on the passenger seat, Endlich said, were hundreds and hundreds of glassine bags containing suspected heroin.

“I counted 662,” he said. The bags were wrapped in bundles.

The officers seized the suspected drugs and Latimer's cell phone. The defendant was placed in Armstrong County Jail.

Endlich said he plans to charge Latimer with felony and misdemeanor drug possession, as well as for having illegally tinted windows.

The arrest, he noted, proves the adage about so-called routine traffic stops.

“You never know what you may find,” Endlich said. “This was definitely as sizable amount of drugs.
