Adams Ridge pool open again after 10-day closure
After a 10-day closure, the Adams Ridge community pool re-opened Friday.
The pool, which serves the Adams Ridge development in Adams Township, initially closed June 8 after eight children who swam there fell ill, two of whom tested positive for E. coli and C. diff, two bacteria which cause gastrointestinal illnesses.
A post on the community's website states the Pennsylvania Department of Health twice tested the pool's waters — on June 8 and 11 — and found no traces of E. coli. The Department of Health, the post states, “is satisfied with the physical plant at the pool.”
In the interim, however, Adams Ridge has made changes with respect to the pool. To start, the community has replaced B&R Pools as its pool management company, opting instead to use Aquatic Watch Inc.
Additionally, the community will make changes to the frequency of its pH and disinfectant sample readings; the test kit for chlorine and pH; the amount of chemicals it will use; an explanation sheet for community members on how to read the sample logs; and a reporting and action protocol for irregularities in the chlorine, pH and bacteria levels.
Finally, the pool paid lifeguards during the closure to maintain their services, will add a third pool manager, delineate tasks across the three managers and plans to clean areas hourly around the pool, including bathrooms and high-touch surfaces.
Cranberry Community Management, which manages the Adams Ridge community, did not respond to a request for comment.
