Butler Twp. man dies of suspected overdose
BUTLER TWP — A 56 -year-old township man died Tuesday of a suspected heroin-related overdose, authorities said.
Emergency crews were called about 6:50 p.m. to a home on Whitestown Road where a family member found Douglas Smaretsky unresponsive.
Investigators said he was renovating the house that he owned, but he did not live there.
Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced Smaretsky dead at the scene about 8 p.m. An autopsy was performed but the final results are pending toxicology reports.
Butler Township police are investigating but they declined to comment about any evidence collected at the scene.
