SR student will perform in Europe

Brad Gibbons, a sophomore at Slippery Rock High, will take his clarinet to Europe in July to perform with the prestigious Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.Gibbons is one of only four student-musicians chosen to represent the state of Pennsylvania in the group's 23-day concert tour that will perform in renowned concert halls and cathedrals across Europe.The Sound of America tour chooses students from all over the country who exhibit "outstanding musical ability and excellent character," according to a news release.Gibbons played for the Slippery Rock Rocket Marching band and the concert band under band director Les Fine.He also played in the middle and high school district bands, and captured a chair in 2009 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 5 honors band.He is privately instructed by Valda Wolfe of Butler.Students will rehearse for four days at Elizabethtown College, before heading to Frankfurt, Germany, on July 2. Performers will visit Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and Luxembourg.
