Police: City man rams SUV of ex-girlfriend
A city man is accused of deliberately ramming his pickup into his ex-girlfriend's sport utility vehicle parked in Butler late Sunday. The SUV also was pushed into another pickup.
Butler police allege 36-year-old William J. Fox was intoxicated around 10:40 p.m. when he repeatedly crashed his Dodge Dakota into the GMC Terrain that was in the parking lot of the Cunningham Shanor building, which is on West New Castle Street.
The SUV was pushed out of the lot on the side of the building, and into the middle of Gibson Street. A GMC Sierra that was parked on the road also was damaged.
The Terrain and Dakota both had “substantial front end damage,” according to charging documents. The Sierra had damage to the rear passenger side wheel well.
Damage to the victims' vehicles totaled more than $5,000, police said. All three vehicles had to be towed.
Officers said that when they arrived, bystanders told them the suspect had fled. Police found Fox nearby on Eighth Avenue. They said he smelled of alcohol.
He admitted to drinking five or six beers before driving, police said. A breath test later confirmed he had alcohol in his system.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Fox on a felony charge of criminal mischief due to the extent of damage to both victims' vehicles.
In Pennsylvania, criminal mischief is considered a third-degree felony if the damage exceeds $5,000.
Additionally, Fox was arraigned on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and disorderly conduct, and summary charges of reckless driving and hit-and-run. He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond following arraignment.
Stoughton, as part of the bond, ordered Fox to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend.
