ELLWOOD CITY — Nic Leone of Butler carded a 73 to place first in the boys 14 division at the Kings Restaurants Junior Golf Tournament Tuesday at Connoquenessing Country Club.Leone won by five strokes over C.J. Hughes and Nicholas Hart.
BOSTON — Three Butler County hockey players played for a PIHL sophomore All-Star team in the Summer Showcase Hockey Night in Boston recently.Butler sophomore forward Mack Walters and defenseman CJ Campbell, along with Seneca Valley freshman forward Alex Crilley, played for the Pittsburgh team that went 2-3-1 for the week.Campbell was elected as one of the top-80 players in the tournament and was invited back to Boston to play in the Major Showcase.Butler junior Logan Rothbauer has been selected to play goal in the Keystone Games being held in Harrisburg next week.
PITTSBURGH — The Butler Valley Dawgs Mite ice hockey team won the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey in July Mite Jamboree Tournament recently at the Consol Energy Center.The Dawgs won the 16-team tourney by defeating the Altoona Trackers, 7-3, in the championship game.Team members include: Cody Bianco, Jack Breisinger, Ian Edinger, Jonathan English, Aiden Froedtert, Colin Hurst, Noah Long, Daniel Pisarcik, Brayden Povlick, Kevin Schillinger, Jack Smelscar, Haden Snyder and Travis Strutt.Coaches were Steve Hurst, Steve English, Jared Froedtert and Mark Smelscar.
PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate Bobby Swartwout has been named a first-team All-Star in the NABA Summer Baseball League in Pittsburgh.He is a first baseman for the South Oakland Ducks.Swartwout is coming off a red-shirt freshman baseball season at West Virginia Wesleyan.
