Woman goes to hospital after crash

CLAY TWP — A woman was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh after driving her car off Route 8 and coming to rest under a large advertising sign at about 2:45 p.m. Monday.

The woman's vehicle threaded the gap between sign posts, but suffered a mild collision with a tree on the other side of the sign. Damages to the vehicle were minimal, according to West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department Chief Reid Campbell.

The woman seemed “confused” after the wreck, Campbell said. She was transported from the scene in a Butler Ambulance Service ambulance to the Unionville Volunteer Fire Hall where a STAT MedEvac helicopter took her to Pittsburgh.

State police and the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the call.

The vehicle carried only the woman.
