Name of Butler's press box likely to stay same

The Butler School Board plans to vote on a five-year naming rights agreement to continue NexTier Bank's sponsorship of Art Bernardi Stadium at its Monday night meeting.

The press box at Art Bernardi Stadium likely will continue to be called NexTier Press Box for the next five years.

If the Butler School Board approves a contract with the bank during a meeting Monday, more money soon will arrive for improvements to athletics facilities.

This summer, such funding paid for renovations to athletics locker rooms.

According to a draft copy of the contract, NexTier would pay $3,000 annually for the naming rights for five years for a total of $15,000. The bank would cover costs for whichever signs go up indicating the new name.

The deal follows similar corporate sponsor naming deals for both the football field and the concession stand. NexTier also holds naming rights for the Seneca Valley School District's football stadium.

Money from naming deals in the Butler district goes to the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation.

The foundation's president, John Reddick, said the cash goes into its corporate fund. That fund is earmarked for athletics facility improvements, unlike other foundation accounts that are generally dedicated to academic support.

“The scholastic foundation began as a group of interested citizens to improve the athletic facilities,” Reddick said. “We're happy to continue that as best we can through the corporate fund.”

Maria Amoruso, NexTier's chief marketing officer, provided a written statement about the plan.

“By supporting them in this way, we feel we are contributing to the quality of education for students throughout the district,” Amoruso said. “At the end of the day, if we are making a difference in the lives of our youth, we consider that a win.”

The agreement is up for consideration at Monday night's Butler School Board meeting. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in Butler Intermediate High School's library.
