Butler graduate Kim Nowakowski had a game-high 14 points and added six rebounds to help California (Pa.) University defeat Slippery Rock 52-39 in a PSAC quarterfinal game Tuesday.

Megan Storck added 12 points and 10 assists for Cal (24-4), which will advance to the semifinals for the sixth straight year. The Vulcans, who have won 10 consecutive contests, will face Millersville at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Rock (13-15) shot 31.9 percent from the floor (15-47). KellyAnn Staudinger led SRU with nine points.

California held a one-point halftime lead (21-20) before scoring 31 points over the final 20 minutes to pull away.

The Slippery Rock University women's softball team split a pair of games with Ohio Valley Tuesday to kick off the season.In a 25-0, five-inning victory in the first game, The Rock received a home run and single from Niki Banner, three singles from Megan McHenry and two doubles and a single each from Stacey Rhoades, Lindsay Rodgers and Carrie Casoni.In the nightcap, Ohio Valley scored all four of the game's runs in the first inning. Amber Phillips had two singles to lead SRU, which returns to action March 11 when it opens a 12-game stint in Fort Myers, Fla.
