Mail-in ballot info offered for seniors

The state Department of Aging is encouraging older adults to vote, but remain safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

A news release from the department said those who plan to vote by mail should apply for a ballot as soon as possible.

Once the mail-in ballot is received, seniors should read the instructions carefully, ensure the pen only touches the ballot when casting a vote so the ballot will be read correctly, return the ballot by mail immediately or take it to the county Elections Bureau by Election Day, Nov. 3.

Be sure to place the ballot in the inner secrecy envelope before placing that envelope into the outer return envelope, which must be signed.

Seniors now have the additional option of voting in-person before Election Day at the county Elections Bureau in the County Government Center at the intersection of West Diamond and South Jackson streets. Seniors simply request a ballot, fill it out and submit it, all in the same visit.

The aging department recommends wearing a face mask and following social distancing and other guidelines for seniors who plan to vote at their polling place on Election Day.
