Bone-chilling temperatures — 7-below at 7 a.m.— and arctic-like wind chills greeted Butler Countians this morning.

And for the second consecutive day, the biting cold has closed all public schools and most if not all private schools in the county as well Butler County College's main campus and all other sites and Slippery Rock University.

No accidents, however, have been reported by Butler County dispatchers or state police

A wind chill advisory remains for the county in effect until 7 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.

On the positive side, the day will turn sunny and the high temperature will hit around 7. Wind chill values as low as 24-below are predicted.

There's a chance of snow overnight, mainly after 2 a.m., with wind chills around 9-below. Any new snow accumulation will be less than a half inch.

On Friday, snow is likely, primarily before 9 a.m., but no more than a half inch with a high temperature of 21 and wind chill values as low as 1-below.

Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures are to hit a “balmy” 38 on Saturday and — fingers-crossed — possibly 50 on Sunday
