Oversized load snaps support wire in West End
An oversized load snapped a support wire at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, causing minor damage to two cars and multiple buildings at the intersection of West New Castle Street and Hansen Avenue.
Butler police responded to the incident, speaking with at least two people with damaged cars and homeowners with wires pulled from their buildings. The awning of at least one home sustained minor damage.
After hearing a loud, snapping noise, Mike Barto of New Castle Street said he went outside to find a KLX Energy truck carrying an oversized load, which appeared to be a mobile office. He said the truck stopped momentarily but then left before authorities responded.
A representative from KLX Energy, which has a branch in Evans City, arrived at the scene around 1 p.m. to speak with police.
Earnest Ball, who lives at the corner of Hansen and New Castle, said such incidents are not uncommon there. He said many trucks, especially oversized loads, hit the wires.
“They're always ripping things out of houses,” he said. “Another day on the corner.”
