Postal Service aims to stamp out hunger

For one day out of the year, mailboxes won’t just be for letters and Amazon purchases.

On Saturday, Butler will join a nationwide, one-day food drive aimed at helping local families and individuals.

The National Association of Letter Carriers and U.S. Postal Service are partnering with The United Way and Butler County Community Action to conduct a food drive for the city food banks.

According to the news release, city residents can place canned and other nonperishable food donations at their mailboxes Saturday. As Butler mail carriers deliver residents’ mail, the carriers also will collect the food donations.

Donations also can be left beside any parked postal vehicle throughout the day or brought to the back door of the Butler’s Main Street post office until 4 p.m.
