Gary Lee “Hopper” James, 73, of Prospect, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, peacefully at his home.

Born March 29, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late Harold “Dutch” and Gloria “Charlie” Lesemann James.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, who proudly served his country from 1967 to 1971.

He was retired from Castle Steel in Michigan, where he worked in the maintenance department.

He was proud to be a licensed pilot, and he enjoyed planes, riding motorcycles, hunting, and was a competitive shooter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris J. Locke James, whom he married Sept. 5, 1967; his daughters, Patricia Lynn Boyd of Prospect, and Laura Lee James of Michigan; three grandchildren Shayne, Alexis and Billie Rose; two great-grandchildren, Myla and Kingston; and his half-sister, Sandy James of Butler.

JAMES — Visitation for Gary Lee “Hopper” James, who died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at RAISLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 387 Main St., Prospect.

Services will conclude with military honors by the Bantam Marine Corps League Detachment 743 of Butler.
