Haine Middle School awarded DEP grant
CRANBERRY TWP — Haine Middle School is one of 95 schools, universities, nonprofit groups and conservation districts in Pennsylvania to receive an environmental education grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Haine will get $3,750 from the DEP to support its rain barrel program, which the school does in partnership with the township.
Haine recently was named the grand prize winner in the Earth Day 40 Schools Challenge sponsored by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for the rain barrel program.
The program provides residents with rain barrels to place under a gutter to catch water runoff. The water is then used to wash cars or water gardens.
Water conservation and improving water quality are the program's ultimate goals.
