Occupants of SUV in crash identified

SUMMIT TWP — State police have identified the occupants of a sport utility vehicle that crashed Thursday morning in the 600 block of Bonniebrook Road, leaving one person injured.

Sylvia E. Higgins, 79, of Butler, a backseat passenger in the Ford Explorer, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries following the one-vehicle accident about 11:10 a.m.

Her condition was not available Friday.

Police said the driver, Jeff Higgins, 42, of Clinton Township, Mich., was northbound on Bonniebrook Road, north of Cemetery Road, when he swerved off the east side of the road.

The vehicle struck a traffic sign and guardrail, according to a police report, and traveled along the side of an embankment for about 50 feet before hitting a downed tree.

Neither Jeff Higgins nor another passenger, Kenneth V. Higgins, 81, of Butler, were injured. All three occupants were wearing belts.

The crash closed Bonniebrook Road to allow emergency crews to remove the vehicle from the embankment.

Police cited Jeff Higgins for disregarding traffic lanes.
