James E. Montgomery

James E. Montgomery, 67, of Acworth, Ga., formerly of Oil City passed away peacefully Jan. 30 at Kennestone Hospice Center.

He was born March 23, 1951, in Oil City, to Harold Montgomery and Kathryn (Sterling) Montgomery.

Jim was an avid sports fan, particularly for all Pittsburgh professional sports teams as well as Penn State athletics.

The fondest memories of his life came coaching his three sons as they played Little League Baseball in Oil City and was a mentor to many young athletes.

He found great joy spending time with his four grandchildren and his family, and most importantly, time in retirement with his wife.

Jim's wife of 45 years, Debra Wiles Montgomery, passed away six days after James.

Surviving are three sons, Todd (Jennifer) Montgomery of Madison, Wis., Marcus (Ashlee) Montgomery of Acworth, Ga., and Stephen Montgomery of Acworth, Ga.

Also surviving are three brothers, William (Patty) Montgomery of Meadville, Robert “Turk” Montgomery of Oil City, and Tom Montgomery of Pittsburgh; as well as his nieces and nephews.

Jim had four grandchildren, Jackson and Declan (Todd) and Reese and Mason (Marcus).

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harold “Nern” Montgomery.

MONTGOMERY — A memorial Mass for James E. Montgomery, who died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor officiating.Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Chicora.Local arrangements are under the direction of Hile Funeral Home of Chicora.The family has set up a GoFundMe page in Jim and Deb's name to support the Oil City Little League, of which Jim had a profound effect coaching many young men and women.
