SUV avoids head-on crash
SUMMIT TWP — One person was taken by ambulance to an area hospital following a one-vehicle crash shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Bonniebrook Road, according to emergency responders.
State police at the scene said the driver of the vehicle, a Ford Explorer, reported that he swerved to avoid a vehicle that was oncoming in his lane immediately before the crash. Police said the Explorer left the road, hit a guardrail and went over an embankment before hitting a tree.
Police said three people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. None of them was immediately identified.
An elderly backseat passenger was injured and taken by ambulance from the scene. Another passenger in the vehicle refused treatment at the scene, according to emergency responders; the driver was reportedly not injured.
The crash blocked Bonniebrook Road completely as emergency responders worked to remove the vehicle from the hillside.
State police, East Butler and Butler ambulance services and Herman and East Butler volunteer fire departments assisted.
