Nature, Wildlife Show reception set for Friday

Sue Bechtel's “Reindeer” is part of the annual Nature and Wildlife Show at the Butler Art Center downtown.

The annual Nature and Wildlife Show will have a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at The Butler Art Center.

Light refreshments will be served, and admission is free.

An awards ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. A first place and a second place winner will be awarded along with honorable mentions.

Judging for the show will be by John Pugliese, a former Butler High School art teacher.

The show features numerous local artists who work in a variety of areas including oil painting, photography and watercolor, among others.

About 70 pieces of artwork have been accepted for this juried show.

The jurors were Alex Coggon, Christy Culp and Dean Selfridge.The submissions came from college-age students through professional artists.“This is one of our first juried shows, and it definitely shows the quality of the work,” said Alex Coggon for The Art Center. “Our invitational is invite-only, and the beer label last fall was juried, but recently that's it.”The Nature and Wildlife Show will continue through Oct. 6.The Art Center at 344 S. Main St. is open regularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.For more information, call 724-283-6922 or visit ButlerArtCenter.org.
