Ernest Fiorina
Ernest Fiorina, 93, formerly of Lower Burrell, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, at the Orchard at Concordia in Butler.
He was born June 17, 1928, in Huey, Clarion County, and was the son of the late Giusto and Margherita (Corgiat) Fiorina, and had been a lifelong resident of the Alle-Kiski area.
Ernie was employed at the National Deposit Bank of Arnold from 1948 to 1958, and he worked at the First National Bank of Leechburg from 1959 to 1989, retiring as executive vice president and head cashier. He was an elected official in Lower Burrell for 32 years, working 28 years as city controller, and then four years as city treasurer, until his retirement in 1994.
Following graduation from Arnold High School in 1946, he attended Robert Morris College, where he graduated in 1950 with an accounting degree. He also earned an American Institute of Banking graduate degree through Bucknell University, and he was president of the Armstrong County Bankers Association for two years.
A member and volunteer for over half a century at Lower Burrell’s St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Ernie volunteered at the Alle-Kiski Ambulatory Care Center in New Kensington and Allegheny Valley Hospital.
He enjoyed playing bocce as a member at the Arnold Spartaco Club, and he was active in several bowling leagues, serving as treasurer for over 25 years of the church senior league at the Wildlife Lanes Bowling Center in Lower Burrell.
He enjoyed gardening, and he was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. His best memories were made during family vacations held every summer at the Outer Banks. He also enjoyed swimming and exercising at the New Kensington YMCA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann (Antonucci) Fiorina; and his three brothers, Dominick, Bert and James Fiorina.
He was the father of four children, Christine Fiorina of Greensburg, Thomas (Bernadette) Fiorina of Toulouse, France, Laurie (John) Kirkpatrick of Pittsburgh, and Dr. Michael (Kristen Ward) Fiorina of Butler.
He is survived by 10 grandchildren, John, Annie and Julie Kirkpatrick, Christopher, Benjamin, Hope and Sarah Fiorina, and Marc-Andrea, Teodore and Louis Fiorina; three great-grandchildren, Claire, Avery and Evelyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernie had been a resident at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, since 2018, and at Concordia at the Orchard in Butler, since April 2021.
FIORINA — Friends of Ernest Fiorina, who died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, are welcome to attend a Christian funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret Mary Church, 3055 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.
The family asks that you honor their request to wear masks at the service.
Burial will be private.
