FRANKLIN TWP — Several Butler County fire departments and emergency services responded to a structure fire along Old Route 422 at about 4:40 p.m. Friday afternoon.

A garage was deemed a total loss after firefighters responded to 831 W. Old Route 422. The fire is suspected to have originated around welding apparatus, which had been used in the garage earlier that day.

The incident took about two hours to clear.

“There was a lot of overhaul and salvage,” said Ken Wilson, Prospect Borough-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department chief.

Prospect-Franklin, Unionville, Portersville, Slippery Rock and Butler District 3 volunteer fire departments responded to the incident. Butler Ambulance also responded. No injuries were reported.

Old Route 422 was closed from Cashdollar Lane to Dick Road for a little over two hours Friday evening while emergency personnel cleaned up the fire.

A house adjacent to the garage sustained minimal damage and is livable. The garage was insured.
