Supply chain disruption not expected to delay high school's addition

The schedule for Butler High School's addition project could be affected by a supply chain disruption.

As of now, the district hasn't changed any plans relating to the construction timeline, according to district superintendent Brian White.

White also said the district could get an update on the supply chain from its contractor near the end of the month.

“We hear that there are delays in people getting products,” White said. “Our contractors are working on supplies now, but we haven't gotten any word on anything yet.”

The addition will add a new wing of about 19,000 square feet to the high school, making room for a new auditorium; 10 new classrooms, including a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) space; wood shops; 3D printers; and additional technology.

The new wing will be able to house ninth-grade students as well as the 10th, 11th and 12th grades, which are already in the school.

The district is getting general contracting services on the project through Nello Construction. Additionally, Merit Electrical is providing electric work, D&G Mechanical is working on the HVAC and Vrabel Plumbing is handling the plumbing.

Construction has already begun on the project, and it is tentatively scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2022-23 school year, allowing ninth grade to start the school year in the building.

According to White, the project timeline has more or less been locked in place because the construction contracts have already been approved.

“There are contractual obligations that our contractors have to abide by,” White said.
