Local municipalities took advantage of Tuesday’s warmer weather to take on the growing number of potholes found on Butler County’s roads.

Tom Shuler, working foreman for the Butler City Public Works Department, said the city has focused on streets like Morton Avenue and Monroe Street to start, but plans to make it to other major traffic areas like Main Street and Second Street as long as the weather holds out.

“(We’re hitting) your heavily traveled streets,” he said. “(We’re getting to) everything right now. Your main arteries.”

Shuler said this winter has been especially hard on some roads.

“The deterioration of the streets is just terrible,” he said. “A lot of times it’s your freezing and thawing. Also, excessive wear, travel and traffic on the road too.”
