Weekend Events Roundup

If you can brave the snow, sleet and ice, Butler County has ample activities planned to beat cabin fever this weekend.

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., WinterFest will take place at Moraine State Park’s McDanel’s Launch at 118 North Shore Dr. The festival will boast food, music, a marshmallow-stuffing contest, chainsaw carving and more activities. Organizers encourage people of all ages to come out for the fun and dress warm.

Butler County Symphony Orchestra will take to the stage with a “Scottish Reverie” concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Butler Intermediate High School Auditorium. Award-winning violinist Shannon Lee will join the symphony in the performance.

Tickets for Scottish Reverie can be purchased online in advance for $25 for adults and $8 for children and students; at the door, tickets will be $30 for adults and $10 for children and students. A lecture about the music that will be played will take place an hour before the concert.

On Sunday at 8 a.m., the fourth annual Groundhog Day Prediction Race will take place at 330 E. Beaver St. in Zelienople. Registered participants can run the surprise course for a chance at trophies and prizes.

Runners predict the amount of time it will take them to complete the race. If they are within their allotted time, the race entry is free. No watches or timing devices allowed.

Participants can also come dressed as their favorite “Groundhog Day” character for a chance at a prize.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Harmony Masonic Lodge.
