ABILENE, Texas — A 21-year-old Zelienople woman is in critical but stable condition following a bus crash Friday that killed a 19-year-old woman and ejected several passengers, critically injuring four.

Tiffany Lutz is alert and responsive at the Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, according to her sister, Chelsea, on Saturday.

“That’s the best news we’ve heard,” Chelsea Lutz said. “She’s healing slowly.”

Chelsea Lutz said her mother left Saturday morning to be at her sister’s bedside.

Tiffany Lutz, a 2008 Seneca Valley High School graduate, attends Abelin Christian University, where she is studying to be a veterinary technician.

On Friday afternoon, she was among the 12 agricultural studies students, three faculty members and a faculty member’s wife traveling on a school-owned bus to Medina, Texas, to do mission work at a children’s home.

The bus veered off a Texas highway and overturned, killing a woman.

The group was to spend the weekend in Medina, school spokesman Grant Rampy said.

“These were students from our agriculture department, heading to an annual service project to help a children’s home in town,” he said.
