County may move 3 polling locations
Butler County commissioners on Wednesday will consider moving three polling locations.
On the commissioners’ agenda for Wednesday is a proposal to move one Center Township voting location as well as the polling places in Eau Claire and Evans City. The new locations, if approved, would remain in the municipalities, but would affect the polling site of roughly 3,300 county voters.
County solicitor H. William White III said during the commissioners’ Jan. 19 meeting that commissioners are required to determine whether the locations are “sufficient for the needs” of voters.
The Center Township 2 precinct, currently located at Church of God of Prophecy, 932 Mercer Road, would move to the Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, in a move that would affect 2,052 voters. The two locations are less than a mile apart.
In Eau Claire, voters currently cast ballots at the borough office, 106 E. Park Ave., but would, should commissioners approve the proposal, vote instead at the Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department’s social hall, 137 N. Washington St. Fewer than 150 voters would be affected by the move, which would shift the polling location by about one-third of a mile.
Evans City’s current polling place is at the Evans City Area Volunteer Fire Department, 124 N. Jackson St., and the proposed new location would be at the Gospel Life Church social hall, 242 S. Washington St., which are roughly a quarter-mile apart. More than 1,100 voters cast ballots at the current location.
