Levin Furniture to lease 5 stores in Western Pa.
Levin Furniture and Mattress has announced an agreement to lease five furniture stores in the greater Pittsburgh and Altoona/State College markets.
The Pittsburgh area locations — at the Pointe in North Fayette, McMurray and in Mount Pleasant — are all former Loves Furniture locations, as are stores in Altoona and State College. All five stores were acquired by Loves Furniture through the bankruptcy earlier this year of Art Van Furniture of Warren, Mich.
Levin’s hopes to open the first of its new locations by February.
In July, Levin’s reopened 19 furniture and mattress locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The additional five locations will take Levin’s store count to 24.
“This has truly been a remarkable year” said Robert Levin, chairman of the company, who, along with partners John and Matt Schultz, acquired the Levin stores out of bankruptcy.
With Tuesday’s announcement, Levin’s has completed its comeback to its original furniture store count in Western Pennsylvania. The Schultz brothers also own and operate John V Schultz Furniture in Erie, as well as Ashley Homestores in Erie, Pittsburgh and Youngstown, Ohio, markets. They plan to open additional Ashley Homestores in the area in the coming year.
