Butler co-ed cheer team to play in PIAA finals
HERSHEY — Butler's co-ed competitive cheer team is moving onto the PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships finals in Hershey on Saturday.
The team competed in the co-ed division against 16 other teams from across the state.
Butler finished 2nd with an average score of 89.0 from three judges, just .9 points behind McDowell High School of Erie which took first place in the divisions preliminary round, according to a chart released on the PIAA's website.
The PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships finals will occur Saturday afternoon. Butler is expected to perform at 12.50 p.m. according to PIAA finals schedule.
Two other local teams, Moniteau and Karns City, also competed but in the medium varsity division of the PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships.
The medium varsity division included a total of 36 teams split in two brackets of 18 teams. Moniteau and Karns City were in separate brackets.
Moniteau placed 7th in their bracket and will be heading to the medium varsity divisions semifinals Saturday morning.
Karns City placed 15th in their bracket and will not be moving on to the medium varsity devision semifinals.
